As commentator Mark Johnson aptly put it, "she worked like a machine and then ran like one." He was referring to Bahnah, who settled neatly and professionally behind dueling pacesetters, was steered off heels and three wide into the stretch and never took a deep breath in posting a six-length debut victory Thursday afternoon at Churchill Downs with a final sixteenth of a mile in a spectacular 5.83 seconds. Whomping Willow (Mineshaft), off at 5-2 from her 12-1 morning line, was well-meant, but second best. Bahnah had shown plenty of zip in her morning trials beneath the Twin Spires and turned in a best-of-36 four furlongs in a sparkling :46 3/5 May 30. The winner's dam outran her pedigree to post wins in the GIII Monmouth BC Oaks and GIII Indiana BC Oaks for trainer Ronny Werner in 2005. Sales history: $62,000 yrl '12 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $27,000.
