BELIEVE IN ROYALTY (c, 2, Tapit–Believe You Can {GISW, $1,280,324}, by Proud Citizen), a $900,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, finished a good third in his one-mile unveiling at Delaware Park Aug. 28 and was asked to navigate that same trip around one turn here. Sent to the front as the 3-5 chalk, the gray engaged in a protracted battle with Broad Surprise (Mineshaft) from the outset and the pair turned for home with Broad Surprise narrowly in front. Believe in Royalty dug in to find more, however, and gradually came back to defeat his persistent foe by 1 1/2 lengths. The winner is the first foal out of Believe You Can, who banked over $1.2 million and won the GI Kentucky Oaks for trainer Larry Jones and Brereton Jones–who is the breeder and a co-owner of Believe in Royalty. Believe You Can produced a filly by Tapit last year and was bred to War Front this spring. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $26,540. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
