Live Foals in North America Decrease in 2021 to About 19,200

Breedings in 2020 have resulted in 19,021 live foals of 2021 thus far being reported to The Jockey Club (TJC) on Live Foal Reports, according to the annual Report of Mares Bred (RMB), which was released Friday by TJC. The number of live foals reported to date is expected to be 85-90% complete. Florida-Based Bucchero Third-Leading Second-Crop Covering Sire

While Mendelssohn and Justify covered well over 200 mares during their respective second seasons in the breeding shed in Kentucky this past winter, Florida-based Bucchero (Kantharos) claimed the bronze medal, having been bred to 161 mares, according to the Report of Mares Bred released by The Jockey Club late last week. In Mares Bred Category, Uncle Mo Back on Top

According to The Jockey Club, which released its annual Report of Mares Bred (RMB) Friday, Uncle Mo covered 257 mares this year, the most among any stallion standing in North America. That puts Uncle Mo back on top for the first time since 2016 when he was bred to 253 mares. He was bred to 241 mares in 2019.
