The two-day Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling Sale drew to a close on Friday with trade at a satisfactory level despite the ongoing pandemic and political anxieties in the country. The aggregate of R102,470,000 (€5,974,884/£5,175,174) was up from R87,065,000 (€5,075,345/£4,397,155) in 2020, and while the average dipped 6% to R276,946 (€16,144/£13,986), the median was up to R200,000 (€11,658/£10,100) from R160,000 (€9,327/£8,080). The catalogue for Bloodstock South Africa's National Yearling Sale, which takes place at the TBA complex in Germiston on Apr. 15 and 16, is online. Silvano Stars Again At National Sale

Saturday's second and final session of the Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling sale saw seven additional seven-figure (Rand) lots added to the top of the price list. Maine Chance Farms's champion sire Silvano (Ger) had been the star of day one, responsible for the top four lots including the sale-leading R7-million colt (£313,406/€348,135), and he once again provided the top two on Saturday. South Africa's National Sale Delayed Until July

Bloodstock South Africa's National Yearling Sale in Johannesburg, initially put off until May from its traditional mid-April calendar slot, has been postponed to July 30 to Aug. 1. Depending on COVID-19 restrictions, the sale will either be staged in a traditional format with no restrictions, with limited attendees or virtually if a lockdown is still in place. The National Two-Year-Old Sale will be held Nov. 11 to 13 and will see all horses previously entered for the KZN Yearling Sale transferred across. The sale will be limited to 600 horses....
