The Jockey Club Releases Industry Initiatives Impact Report

The Jockey Club has released its 2024 Industry Impact Report. The report, which has traditionally been released at The Jockey Club's annual Round Table Conference in August, details how at least $7 million will be used in the coming year to support initiatives ranging from equine safety and aftercare to industry promotion and national and international collaboration, according to a Tuesday press release from the organization. Grayson-Jockey Club Approves Funding for EHV-1 and EHM Vaccine Research

The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation recently issued a special call for research proposals to address vaccines for Equid Alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) and Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) and after a thorough review process by the foundation's veterinarian advisory committee, two research proposals were selected for funding. Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Approves 2023 Funding

The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has authorized expenditure of $1,498,077 to fund 12 new projects and nine continuing projects at 13 universities, as well as two career development awards in the coming year. The 2023 slate of research brings Grayson's totals to more than $34.1 million to underwrite 426 projects at 45 universities since 1983. Study: Horses On Lasix At Increased Risk of 'Sudden Death'

A new study published this week in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association and funded by the Grayson Jockey Club Foundation, has found that horses racing on Lasix were 62% more likely to die within three days of racing than were horses running without the diuretic. Fatalities due to catastrophic musculoskeletal injury were not included in the study. The use of Lasix was one of 15 risk factors identified in the report. The 10th Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 in the Keeneland sales pavilion, will be available via livestream through links on the Grayson Jockey Club and The Jockey Club websites.
