Thoroughbreds To Be Recognised In Olympics

Thoroughbreds will now be recognised in the starting lists and results beginning with the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, in an agreement announced on Tuesday. Previously, retired Thoroughbred racehorses were listed as 'breeding unknown'. The agreement--which applies to dressage, show jumping, and eventing--follows discussions between the European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation (EMHF), the World Breeding Federation for Sports Horses (WBFSH), the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and the International Stud Book Committee (ISBC) and will extend also to all FEI competitions. Russian EMHF Application “Will Not Be Further Progressed”

The European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation released a statement on Wednesday noting that Russia's application to join the federation has been placed on hold, and expressed its "concern and sympathy" for Ukraine. The statement read, "The European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation (EMHF) is a federation of the governing authorities for Thoroughbred Horseracing across the European and Mediterranean region. EMHF Fellowship Observer Competition Launched

The EMHF Fellowship Observer competition, open to all members of racing societies affiliated to the ESHF, was created by the European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation (EMHF) and the European Student Horseracing Federation (ESHF). The winner of the competition will be invited and have their expenses paid to present their ideas to the next EMHF General Assembly planned to be an in-person event in Warsaw, Poland on May 15-16, 2021. Dr. Paull Khan Remains EMHF Secretary-General

Dr. Paull Khan will remain the Secretary-General of the European and Mediterranean Horseracing Federation until Dec. 31, 2024. "I am delighted that Paull has agreed to extend his term as Secretary General of the EMHF," said EMHF Chair Brian Kavanagh.
