On February 7, 1969, Diane Crump became the first woman to ride in a parimutuel race, at Hialeah Park. Her participation in the race was so controversial at the time that she required a police escort to get her through the crowd of hostile spectators to the paddock. Ky Derby Museum Opens 'Right' to Ride' Exhibit

The Kentucky Derby Museum presents the grand opening of the new 'Right to Ride' exhibit, featuring legendary female jockeys Patti Barton, Patti Cooksey, Barbara Jo Rubin and Donna Barton Brothers, at 12:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
