Spendthrift Farm went to $3.4-million to secure champion 2-year-old filly and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Vequist at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in 2021 and debuts her second foal, WELL VERSED (Into Mischief), Sunday at Del Mar. Trainer Richard Mandella, who oversaw a bullet work for this filly two back on July 23 (five furlongs in :59 1/5 {1/24}), will leg up Hall of Famer Mike Smith in the Spendthrift orange and purple silks.
Royal Pearl (Mandaloun), a $425,000 Keeneland September grad for Mike Rutherford, is out of a winning Indian Charlie half-sister to champion sprinter Midnight Lute (Real Quiet).
And it wouldn't be a Del Mar 2-year-old race without a Bob Baffert runner as Miss Monica (Early Voting), an $850,000 OBS April purchase for Three Amigos, also put up a strong work July 24 (five furlongs in :59 4/5 {3/58}). TJCIS PPS

The half-sister to GISW Obligatory (Curlin), Juddmonte homebred Episodic (Uncle Mo), drew outside for her Saratoga unveiling Sunday for trainer Bill Mott. Stakes-winning first dam Uno Duo, herself a half to G1SW Etoile Montante (Miswaki), has also produced GSP Treble Clef (Arrogate) and Napier (Midnight Lute), a mare who became the dam of MGISP Ferocious (Flatter). Douglas Scharbauer spent $675,000 on I'mgunningforyou (Gun Runner) as a Keeneland September Yearling last fall. The full-sister to SW Guns Loaded is a daughter of MGSP Sky My Sky and posted a two-back bullet July 23 (four furlongs in :48 flat {1/25}) for trainer Brad Cox.
Kirk and Judy Robison homebred Lead by Example (Jackie's Warrior) draw inside for Steve Asmussen, all the same connections who campaigned her champion sire. She is a half-sister to GSW/MGISP Skinner (Curlin). TJCIS PPS
