Stay Thirsty Filly Goes Two for Two for TAP

NONNA BELLA (f, 3, Stay Thirsty–Nonna Mia {GISP, $127,150}, by Empire Maker) was flattered this past Sunday when Salty (Quality Road), who she beat by a neck in their respective debuts Feb. 4, came back to win well, and was 2-5 herself here to become the second next-out winner out of that heat. Away in good order from her outside draw, the Repole homebred traded jabs from the two path with Ascertain (Blame) through splits of :23.11 and :46.10. Clearly going much better of the two leaders passing the quarter pole, the dark bay began to shake free, but grew a bit leg weary and took several awkward strikes in the run to the line. Corporate Queen (Colonel John), representing the same Gary Barber/Mark Casse team as the aforementioned Salty, put in a strong late bid, but Nonna Bella still found the line a length to the good. Ascertain (Blame) rounded out the trifecta. The winner, out of Mike Repole's 2009 GI Frizette S. third Nonna Mia, is a half to last year's standout sophomore Outwork (Uncle Mo), GISW, $701,800; Nonna's Boy (Distorted Humor), MSP, $247,491; and a recently foaled Uncle Mo filly. Her MSW/GSP second dam Holy Bubbbette (Cairo Prince) is responsible for MGSW Cairo Prince (Pioneerof the Nile). Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $46,800. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.O/B-Repole Stable Inc (KY); T-Todd A. Pletcher.[bullet ad=”crupi-trained”]
