Star Witness Colt Tops MM Day One

Lot 177 | Magic Millions

A colt by Star Witness (Aus) (Starcraft {NZ}) topped the opening day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale. The session's figures failed to match those posted last year; there was A$5.757 million worth of juveniles traded at an average price of almost A$50,000. 116 of the 167 lots offered changed hands giving a clearance rate of 71%. “For obvious reasons we were nervous coming into this sale,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “As the results reveal, the diversity of buyers both internationally and domestically is rewarding for all concerned. We must congratulate Aquis Farm on selling the top priced lot today at their first Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale. They have fully invested in the industry and it is great for them and the Queensland industry.”
The above mentioned Aquis Farm sale topper, a chestnut offered as lot 177, was purchased by Constance Cheng for A$315,000 and is now destined for Singapore. Cheng was delighted to secure her number one pick of the sale and revealed the colt was a birthday present for her partner. “He's a strong, well built colt and a brilliant mover,” Cheng said. “I'm delighted to have purchased who I thought was the standout horse of the sale. He looks an early two-year-old type and has a great temperament. I'm very happy,” Cheng added. Lot 97 was also in demand and the colt by Sebring (Aus) (More Than Ready), offered by Washpool Lodge, sold to New Zealand based agent Paul Beamish for A$200,000. The third highest price of the day came for Kenmore Lodge's colt by Commands (Aus) (Danehill), lot 188, who sold to Stephen Gray from Singapore for A$160,000. The dam Fluffy Duck (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat) has already produced two stakes winners including the colt's full-brother Atomic (Aus). The top priced filly, one of three lots to sell for A$150,000, was lot 80 by Your Song (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}). The juvenile offered by Profits Lodge was sold to the Ridgeport Syndicate and is likely to join the stables of leading trainer Neville Parnham. Day Two of the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale commences at 12 noon (Qld time) on Wednesday.
