Sporting Chance a 'Rising Star' for The Coach at Spa

Sporting Chance (Tiznow) set the pace and was caught late to finish second on debut going 5 1/2 furlongs at Churchill June 15 but finished strongly in his second go around Saturday at Saratoga, wiring the field in a 2 1/4-length romp and earning 'TDN Rising Star' honors. Sent to the front, he showed the way through a quarter-mile in :22.12 with favored Machismo (More Than Ready) closely in tow. Opening up coming off the bend, he spurted clear and held sway over a rallying Givemeaminit (Star Guitar). The final time was 1:04.72.

Sporting Chance sold for $275,000 as a Keeneland November weanling and progressed to hammer for $575,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. The winner's stakes-winning dam, Wynning Ride (Candy Ride {Arg}), placed second in the 2008 GI Hollywood Starlet and third in the 2009 GI Coaching Club American Oaks. She is responsible for a yearling colt by Pioneerof the Nile named Fearless Mufasa and a weanling filly by Closing Argument.
