DOWNTOWN MAMA (f, 3, Speightstown–Alpha Mama, by Unbridled's Song) took her record to a perfect two-for-two with a decisive front running score at Belmont Saturday. The $440,000 OBSAPR grad became one of Linda Rice's many winners at Laurel, where she tied for leading trainer, with a 3/4-length success in the mud on debut there Apr. 23. Bet down to 7-2 from a 6-1 morning-line quote, the roan filly broke on top from her rail draw and ticked off early fractions of :22.56 and :46.15. Showing the way into the lane, Downtown Mama kept on finding to skip home a three-length victress over Sheplaysthefield (Sky Mesa). The winner is a half-sister to Alpha Kitten (Tale of the Cat), GSW, $227,010; a juvenile filly by Paynter; and a yearling colt by Scat Daddy. Her dam Alpha Mama was bred back to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $69,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
