Shred the Gnar Looks for Grade I Glory in Friday's La Troienne

A trio of graded stakes winners will attempt to take the next step up in Friday's GI La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Heading the fray is Flying Dutchmen's Shred the Gnar (Into Mischeif), a winner of three straight in 2025 including the one-mile GIII Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 15. In her sole start this term, the Brian Lynch trainee finished a troubled sixth as the even-money choice in the 8 1/2-furlong GIII Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream Feb. 14. Luis Saez, in the irons for all three wins, gets back on here.

Returning off four-month respite, Klaravich Stables' Fully Subscribed (Tiz the Law) will try to add her third career victory for trainer Chad Brown, who strikes at a robust 26% rate with horses returning off a layoff. In 2025, she hit the board in all four starts, including her most recent wins in the GII Mother Goose Stakes and GIII Comely Stakes, both over nine furlongs at the Big A. Flavian Prat, aboard for her latest, returns to ride.

Arguably flying a bit under the radar, Repole Stable's Scalable (Speightstown), winner of last year's GIII Monmouth Oaks, is a perfect two-for-two this season for trainer Todd Pletcher. Victorious in a pair of nine-furlong Big A races–the Ladies Stakes on Feb. 6 and the Top Flight Stakes on Mar. 29–the 5-year-old was ridden by Kendrick Carmouche on both of those occasions, however, will receive the services of Hall of Famer Johnny Velazquez this time.

Never to be counted out on the big days, trainer Brad Cox offers up two–Chasten (Into Mischief) and Bless the Broken (Laoban), a $950,000 Fasig-Tipton November buy last fall. The former, a Juddmonte homebred, is two-for two in 2026, including her most recent win in the Mar. 14 Sandy Bottom Stakes at Colonial, while the latter won at Fair Grounds in January before finishing second last time out in the Mar. 7 GI Beholder Mile at Santa Anita.
