Sent off as the 9-5 chalk to build on a smart debut success sprinting over the Ellis Park turf course Aug. 7, Holy Cow Stable's Seneca Park (Golden Pal) got just the better of an enervating final-furlong battle to defeat Luminous Beauty (Flameaway) in Sunday's $750,000 Untapable Stakes at Kentucky Downs. She is the first black-type winner for her successful young stallion (by Uncle Mo), who is already responsible for 21 first-crop winners, including new winners at Saratoga and Gulfstream Park earlier in the afternoon (see below).
Drawn inside, the dark bay filly hit the ground running and was eased back to sit third as Severely Overpayin (Highly Motivated) made the running in advance of of Luminous Beauty.
Always going nicely in the hands of Brian Hernandez, Jr., Seneca Park came out three wide to deliver her challenge and was the deepest in a line of three passing the quarter pole. She linked up in earnest with Luminous Beauty, a latest second in the GIII Adirondack Stakes, passing the eighth pole and neither was willing to give an inch, with Seneca Park getting her head in front in the final few strides.
