Tuesday's Prix Chapeau Rouge at Saint-Cloud played host to the frontrunning TDN Rising Star performance of Andre Fabre trainee Alcantor (New Bay) back in 2023 and this year's renewal witnessed another pillar-to-post Rising Star display by a Fabre nominee, Segall (Sottsass), who put his rivals to the sword in the seven-furlong contest. He follows Ultrafragola and Safia in becoming his sire's third Rising Star. Former Coolmore resident Sottsass now stands at Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan.
The 13-5 favourite was swiftly into stride from the inside stall and seized an immediate lead in this debutants' heat. Holding sway throughout, he increased his advantage soon after turning for home and extended clear in striking fashion inside the final quarter-mile to prevail by an impressive four lengths from Synaran (Mehmas).
Andre Fabre could have another nice one on his hands!

Segall is the latest of four reported foals and third scorer from as many runners produced by G2 Rockfel Stakes victrix Spain Burg (Sageburg), herself out of a multiple-winning half-sister to Listed Swedish Open Mile runner-up Cyber World (Robin Des Pins). Descendants of the February-foaled bay's multiple Group-placed fourth dam Lightning Fire (Kris), winner of the Listed Prix Imprudence, include GII All Along Stakes victrix Beyrouth (Alleged) and stakes-winning G2 Sun Chariot Stakes and GII E P Taylor Stakes placegetter Flame Valley (Gulch). Lightning Fire is a full-sister to G1 Prix de la Salamandre-winning sire Common Grounds and kin to multiple Grade I-placed G3 Prix de Psyche winner Angel In My Heart (Rainbow Quest), herself the dam of G1 Derby hero Kris Kin (Kris S.).
