Scat Daddy's Sioux Nation In Perfect Warm-Up For Ascot

Sioux Nation & his connections | Racing Post

By

Following in the steps of fellow Scat Daddy colt Caravaggio, Sioux Nation took Sunday's G3 Goffs Lacken S. at Naas with a degree of comfort as Ballydoyle eyes the June 22 G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. Settled behind stablemate Fleet Review (War Front) early by Ryan Moore, last year's G1 Phoenix S. and G2 Norfolk S. winner took control passing the furlong pole and asserted for a 1 1/4-length success as the 15-8 favourite.

“He's very good, but he needs fast ground,” Moore said. Aidan O'Brien was more than satisfied with the bay, who had been fourth on his comeback in Navan's Listed Committed S. Apr. 22. “We're delighted. We came here with a view to finding out whether we go five or six at Ascot and Naas is a stiff place, so we'll probably have to go to the Commonwealth Cup,” he said. “He has always had a lot of pace at home and has pure Scat Daddy raw speed, so maybe six is as far as he wants to go. Ryan was happy with him here and said he has all the speed in the world and he would have no problem going back to five, but maybe let him take on the 3-year-olds this year. He also said he would be looking forward to the Nunthorpe, so we'll see what the lads want to do.”

Pedigree Notes…

Aside from his sire, Sioux Nation also gets his pace from his second dam Catch the Blues (Ire) (Bluebird), who took the G3 Ballyogan S. and was placed in Royal Ascot's G3 Cork and Orrery S. and the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup. The whole immediate family is fast, with the G3 Al Shindagha Sprint winner My Catch (Ire) (Camacho {GB}), the G1 Prix Morny third Vladimir (Ire) (Kheleyf). Catch the Blues's MSW close relative Prairie Maiden (Badger Land) produced the GIII Fort Macy S. hero Smooth Daddy to a mating with Scat Daddy. Further back, this is the family of the G1 Epsom Derby hero Secreto (Northern Dancer). Dream the Blues's 2-year-old brother to Sioux Nation, Isle of Innisfree, was unplaced at Cork this week while she also has a yearling colt by Declaration of War.
