Saturday Insights: Pair Of Kantharos Fillies Look To Graduate At Churchill

Kantharos | Sarah Andrew

10th-CD, $120K, Msw, 3yo/up, f, 5 1/2f, 5:26 p.m.

As the last foal out of blue-hen broodmare Leslie's Lady (Tricky Creek), LADY IRENE (Kantharos) has a pedigree second to none. Her trio of illustrious half-siblings hardly need an introduction but are none other than 4x Eclipse winner Beholder (Henny Hughes), GISW & sire Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy), and perennial leading general sire Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday). Retained by her breeder Clarkland Farm, Lady Irene debuted with an on-the-board closing finish under the Twin Spires last Nov. She picks up Lasix Saturday and jockey Corey Lanerie retains the mount for trainer Eddie Kenneally.

Opposing her from an inside gate, Driana (Kantharos) brought a final bid of $525,000 as a yearling by Cheyenne Stables at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale. She is a half-sister to MSP Hollywood Glory (Maclean's Music) and from the family of MGSW Woke Up Dreamin (Holy Bull), MGSW Denomination (Smart Strike), and GSW Lemon Drop Dream (Lemon Drop Kid). She debuts Saturday off a bullet drill at Keeneland May 17, going three furlongs in :35 (1/21) for trainer Ben Colebrook. TJCIS PPS

6th-CD, $120K, Msw, 3yo/up, f, 5 1/2f, 3:18 p.m.

Saucy Secret (Into Mischief) is the latest foal out of GI Ogden Phipps H. victress Tiz Miz Sue (Tiznow), making her a half to GSP Serein (Uncle Mo) and MSP Surfer Dude (Curlin). Tiz Miz Sue herself is a half-sister to MSW Bulletin (City Zip) and to the dam of GSW/GISP Souper Sensational (Curlin). TJCIS PPS

5th-WO, $111K, Msw, 2yo, f, 3 1/2f, 3:13 p.m.

Drawn furthest to the outside in her unveiling Saturday, $400,000 Keeneland September purchase Dancing Duchess (Munnings) will seek to emulate the success of her half-brother, Queen's Plate S. winner Safe Conduct (Bodemeister). Her dam, a perfect three-for-three on producing winners thus far, is a half to Canadian Horse of the Year Fatal Bullet (Red Bullet). Dancing Duchess picks up the services of Patrick Husbands for trainer Mark Casse. TJCIS PPS
