Robin Des Champs Mare Tops Tattersalls Ireland NH February Sale

Robin de Carlow takes her turn in the ring | Tattersalls Ireland

Robin de Carlow (GB) (Robin des Champs {Fr}) (lot 298A), consigned by Closutton Stables, brought a sale-topping €70,000 from Simon Cox and Ballincurrig House during the Tattersalls Ireland February National Hunt Sale on Tuesday. The 9-year-old has won at the Grade 3 level over both hurdles and fences and her granddam is the Grade 1 hurdle heroine Nas Na Riogh (Ire) (Presenting {GB}).

Ballincurrig House Stud's Perfect Ball (Fr) (No Risk At All {Fr}) brought the next dearest amount, going for €62,000 to Kieran Shields. The yearling (lot 104) is out of the accomplished chaser/hurdler Princesse Kap (Fr) (Kapgarde {Fr}), who won three times in graded company.

Overall, the one-day sale saw 167 lots sold (60%) for a gross of €2,181,750. The average set a new record at €13,064 (+14%) and the median came in at €9,000 (-3%), the second-best median figure to date.

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “We are delighted to kick off our first sale of 2022 with another record-breaking session, following last year's record-breaking renewals of the November NH Sale and the Derby Sale that returned the highest average and median on record for any store sale.

“The February NH Sale was cancelled in 2021 due to Covid-19 and it was fantastic to stage a sale today under more 'normal' conditions and witness the fierce competition for choice foals between buyers from near and far. It is very pleasing to see the figures reach new highs, proving the February NH Sale is worth the wait.

We look forward to sponsoring the €150,000 Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) at the Dublin Racing Festival this coming weekend and catching up with many of our loyal vendors and purchasers ahead of the Derby Sale inspections commencing. Derby Sale graduates dominated at the 2021 Dublin Racing Festival with four Grade 1 winners and we cannot wait to cheer them on this weekend on what is sure to be a superb weekend of racing.”
