RMG Announces Internship for Jockeys

A new media internship aimed at jockeys and former jockeys has been unveiled by Racecourse Media Group (RMG), the parent company of Racing UK, and the Jockeys Employment Training Scheme (JETS). The idea of the 10-week course, held in London, is to cover all aspects of the media, including presentation, punditry, production, digital, marketing and public relations and is open to any rider who has held a professional licence issued by the British Horseracing Authority and has had at least one ride.

RMG are making two spaces available and will pay each trainee £5,000 each plus travel expenses. Applications close on Apr. 24.

Seb Vance, director of PR & communications at RMG, said, “Recent events on the track, such as Freddy Tylicki's accident at Kempton, have highlighted just how precarious a jockey's career is. RMG wants to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to their future by giving something back to the ambassadors of the sport, who risk their health every day for our sport and livelihoods. We are hopeful that the training could conceivably lead to a career in the racing media.”

Lisa Delany, JETS manager added, “We are extremely grateful to RMG for creating this Internship for jockeys. Working in the media has proved a popular career choice for many former jockeys and we encourage any jockeys interested in this area to take advantage of this unique and exciting opportunity.”
