OUTFIELDER (c, 2, Speightstown–Notte d'Oro {SW-USA, SP-Can, $242,482}, by Medaglia d'Oro) became a 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' at Churchill Downs back in May with an easy 6 1/4-length win on the grass for Wesley Ward. A next planned start at Royal Ascot was punted when he came down with a minor shin issue but Ward was still able to ship the young colt to France where he wound up fourth beaten 2 3/4 lengths in the G1 Prix Morny Stakes at Deauvilla Aug. 24. Outfielder's return to the States Saturday came with two major changes as he got on dirt for the first time and raced without blinkers under John Velazquez. Close to the speed and pressured early from the outside, the 3-5 favorite had to contend with a determined run from Oscar's Hope (Twirling Candy) as the pair dueled through much of the final furlong before Outfielder's class finally prevailed for the two-length win. Notte d'Oro, a winning half-sister to Canadian MGSW/GISP Red Rifle (Giant's Causeway), is not represented by a yearling this season but did foal a Quality Road colt and returned to the Lane's End stallion for 2026.
