'Rising Star' Back to Winning Ways in Typhoon Tracy

'TDN Rising Star' Tulip (Aus) (Pierro {Aus}) picked an ideal way to snap a seven-race losing skid, coming with a stinging rally through the final 150 metres to easily take out the G3 Typhoon Tracy S. under the Friday night lights at Moonee Valley.

Looking for her first victory since scoring in the G3 Magic Night S. at Rosehill in March 2017, the $4.20 (16-5) favourite jumped alertly for Kerrin McEvoy and was prominent for the opening 200m before dropping back into mid-division down the side while three off the inside. Allowed to creep closer nearing the home turn, Tulip responded to her rider's urgings to swoop in front at the furlong marker and sprinted home to best True Excelsior (NZ) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) by a length.

“It was an A-1 ride and we got the A-1 result,” Bruno Rouge-Serret, a representative for the David Hayes, Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig stable, told Racing.com. “She was the class filly in the race tonight so we just wanted her to come here and get the win, if she'd got beat today we probably would've been second guessing our options. Now she can go to Sydney with some confidence and there are quite a few options for her up there.”

Accorded 'Rising Star' status off a debut success at The Valley on New Year's Eve 2016, the NZ$400,000 NZB Premier Yearling acquisition took a soft-7 renewal of the Magic Night and backed up a week later to be a highly creditable third to She Will Reign (Aus) (Manhattan Rain {Aus}) in the G1 Longines Golden Slipper S. She was making her second start this prep, having finished fourth in the G3 Kevin Hayes S. at Caulfield 13 days previously.
