SALTY (f, 3, Quality Road–Theycallmeladyluck {SP}, by Dixie Union) followed up a strong debut for a patient barn with a rallying victory for new connections at Gulfstream. Closing strongly to just miss when second at 24-1 in her career bow here Feb. 4, the bay was bought into by Gary Barber following that effort and transferred from Ian Wilkes to the Mark Casse barn. Coming in off a best-of-78 bullet half-mile breeze in :47 flat Feb. 25 at Palm Meadows, Salty was given first time Lasix here and broke as the 3-5 chalk. Lagging well off the speed of firster Convenant (Speightstown) through a quarter in :22.51, the favorite began to get going around the seven-sixteenths pole and was maneuvered between horses on the turn. Quickly ranging up into contention while floating four-wide at the top of the lane, she closed resolutely in the center of the track to inhale the pacesetter at the sixteenth pole and kick clear to a 2 1/2-length success. The victress's second dam is GSW Vegas Prospector (Crafty Prospector). She has a yearling half-brother by Candy Ride (Arg) and her dam was bred to American Pharoah last spring. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $30,020. Click for the Equibase.com chart or \fs21cf2VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
