Protonico (Giant's Causeway) will be targeting a third straight graded victory in Sunday's GII Monmouth Cup at Monmouth Park. A front-running five-length winner of the Apr. 11 GIII Ben Ali S. at Keeneland, the dark bay colt battled to a narrow victory over Noble Bird (Birdstone) in the May 1 GII Alysheba S. last time out.
Bradester (Lion Heart) was an impressive winner of the July 5 GIII Salvator Mile last time out. The 5-year-old was second in that local prep a year ago before filling the runner-up spot behind the reopposing Valid (Medaglia d'Oro) in the 2014 Monmouth Cup.
Valid, winner of the GIII Fred Hooper S. at Gulfstream in February, is coming off a solid third-place effort behind Bradester in the Salvator Mile.
