Promise Fulfilled In Cape Verdi

Promising Run | DRC/Andrew Watkins

Promising Run made it a group win in four consecutive seasons when justifying favouritism in Thursday's G2 Cape Verdi S. at Meydan. Bouncing out of the barriers on top, Promising Run conceded a lead to the keen Rehana down the backstretch. Moving off the fence to confront that rival coming off the bend, Promising Run collared Rehana in midstretch and, with a few slaps of the whip from Pat Cosgrave, she drew clear to win convincingly while Aljuljalah made a late rally to claim third.

The winner of the G2 Rockfel S. in her third start at two, Promising Run the following season found herself in the unfortunate position of being born in the same crop as Polar River (Congrats), and she finished second behind that dominant rival in the UAE 1000 Guineas trial and the main event itself, the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas. She picked up her second pattern win that fall when scooping Turkey's G3 Istanbul Trophy, and the bay opened her 2017 carnival with a victory in the G2 Al Rashidiya S. going a mile and one furlong. Promising Run was beaten 3 1/4 lengths in two further starts of that campaign, a third behind subsequent Group 1 winner Zarak (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G3 Dubai Millennium S. and a seventh in the G1 Jebel Hatta. Given a break over the spring and summer, Promising Run came into this off a fourth in listed company at Goodwood on Sept. 27 and a third at the same level at Lingfield on Nov. 2.

Pedigree Notes…

Promising Run is the sixth and most accomplished produce of the Brazilian Group 1 winner Aviacion, who is also the dam of Arabian Comet (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), second in the G3 Lillie Langtry S. Aviacion's 3-year-old Medaglia d'Oro filly Voladora (Ire) was a winner last year at two, and after being barren to Dawn Approach (Ire) the following season she produced a colt by Night Of Thunder (Ire) last year. Promising Run's fourth dam is Swansea (Turn-to), a full-sister to Sir Gaylord and a half-sister to Secretariat. Click for the free Equineline.com catalogue-style pedigree.
