Pricedtoperfection Gives Brown a Fifth Straight Sweetest Chant

Pricedtoperfection | Kenny Martin

Pricedtoperfection sliced between rivals late to provide conditioner Chad Brown with his fifth straight win in the GIII Sweetest Chant S. Saturday. Brown's previous winners include champion Dayatthespa (City Zip) (2012), Premier Steps (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) (2013), Ready to Act (More Than Ready) (2014) and Consumer Credit (More Than Ready) (2015). Biding her time in mid-pack off early splits of :23.78 and :48.63, the bay began to creep closer as they approached the turn for home. Full of run, but with nowhere to go at the top of the stretch, Pricedtoperfection burst through a seam late to score.

“When she had to steady there turning for home, maybe a couple times, I was concerned,” Brown said. “But, I was happy with the path that Joel [Rosario] chose. We had planned that in the paddock, that if we could get a covered-up trip for most of the way, take it. Those are the risks in turf racing if you're going to stay covered. You might have some tired horses stopping on front of you. Thankfully he had a good enough horse under him to re-break again turning for home when he had a clear run. It looks like she made more than one run in the race, which is impressive.”

Third on debut behind subsequent GIII Miss Grillo S. heroine Tin Type Gal (Tapit) in a 1 1/16-mile turf test at Saratoga Aug. 23, Pricedtoperfection earned her diploma by three lengths next out at Belmont Oct. 17, giving her trainer enough confidence to send her to the Breeders' Cup. Ninth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf over a yielding course at Keeneland Oct. 30, the sophomore was off a step slow in this venue's Ginger Brew S. Jan. 2, but rallied late to finish a close second behind the undefeated Lira (Giant's Causeway).

Pricedtoperfection is a full sister to stakes winner Miss Temple City, who finished second in last year's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and also hit the board in four other graded events, including the 2015 Sweetest Chant. The winner's dam has an unraced 2-year-old filly named Five Each Way (Bullet Train {GB}) and was bred back to Verrazano this term.
