Pivotal's Addeybb Wins the Sandown Mile

Addeybb and James Doyle | Racing Post

By

After making a mockery of the prestigious Lincoln H. at Doncaster Mar. 24, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Addeybb (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) proved he was too good for handicaps with an emphatic success in Friday's G2 bet365 Mile at Sandown. With his light hidden under a bushel during 2017, the chestnut who captured handicaps at Ascot in July and Newmarket in September let the secret out in the Lincoln and looked tailor-made for this company. Kept apart from the main bunch early as James Doyle was intent on following Robin of Navan (Fr) (American Post {GB}), the 6-4 favourite had an ideal lead and when shaken up in the straight earned the advantage approaching the furlong pole en route to a 2 3/4-length success from Stormy Antarctic (GB) (Stormy Atlantic).
Trainer William Haggas's wife Maureen is thinking of the top level now and said, “He has done that nicely enough. He is just such a nice, straightforward horse. He has got a great temperament and tries his guts out and you can't ask for much more than that. He is a grand horse. He had been great since the Lincoln. I think he [owner Ahmed Al Maktoum] is talking about going for the [G1] Lockinge [S. at Newbury May 12]. He rang up and said 'Lockinge, Lockinge, Lockinge'. He handles this ground, but he is a good mover so I'm not sure he has to have it.” The dam, whose first foal was the GIII Generous S. third Meer Kat (Ire) (Red Ransom), is out of a SW and GSP sister to the G2 Goldene Peitsche-winning sire Nicholas (Danzig).
