Piggybunz (Happy Saver) become the first winner for her freshman sire (by Super Saver) Thursday, winning a maiden optional claiming race at Colonial Downs for Brittany Russell.
Raced in partnership Bownen Thoroughbred Racing along with her co-breeder, the late Brereton Jones, the $50,000 Keeneland September grad was well-spotted in this six-furlong main track event and sent off as the 4-5 favorite against a field split between first-time starters and more experienced runners.
Drawn in the middle of the gate, Piggybunz caught a flyer and led immediately under Sheldon Russell, opening up a quick gap up the backstretch. Unpressured and in full command through fractions of :22.10 and :44.97, the favorite continued to draw off from this overmatched group and came into the final furlong well in hand to win her debut by 5 1/4 lengths over She's the Moment (Yaupon).
Piggybunz is out of a winning Creative Cause half-sister to GI Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can (Proud Citizen), a mare who went on to produce a pair of graded stakes horses herself. Another of her dam's half-sisters, Believe You Will (Proud Citizen), is responsible for GI Arkansas Derby runner up King Russell (Creative Cause). Cause She's Fast now has four winners from six to race and returned to Happy Saver two more times, producing a filly in 2025 and colt this year. She was bred to Beau Liam for 2027.
