Baroda Stud's son of Wootton Bassett was the second lot to breach the €500,000 mark during the first session of Arqana's August Yearling Sale.
He sold to Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock for €800,000 on Saturday afternoon and was bred in Ireland by Coolmore.
Lot 43 is a son of G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial heroine Just Pretending (Giant's Causeway), who also finished second in the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes and third in both the G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas.
From the family of Caerleon and a half-sister to Grade III winner and sire The Leopard, the dam has already thrown the Galileo stakes-placed duo of Visage and Persia. The latter was second in the G3 Eyrefield Stakes.
After signing the ticket, bloodstock agent Ross Doyle said, “I know it's easy to say now, but he was a bit of a standout. Our team has seen every horse in this sale over the last two or three days – that's the way we operate. He was in our top tier. He's by a wonderful stallion and from a good family. Everything just matched up.”
Confirming that the colt had been bought for Magne Jordanger of Stall Perlen, one of the largest owners in Scandinavia, Doyle added, “I'm very lucky that I had a chance to buy him and I really appreciate it. Stall Perlen are from Scandinavia, they have moved into France now and they have horses with Pia Brandt. I imagine that's where he'll be going.”
