'Peb' Receives Jockey Club Medal

Peb's 2015 Kentucky Derby drawing for the TDN

Pierre 'Peb' Bellocq, whose much-celebrated caricatures for major horse racing events have featured in the Daily Racing Form and, proudly, more recently in this publication, has been awarded with The Jockey Club Medal for exceptional contributions to the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industries.

Stuart S. Janney III made the presentation Saturday at a dinner hosted by The Jockey Club in Saratoga Springs, NY.

“Peb's artwork has been revered in the horse racing industry for more than 50 years,” said Janney. “He has brought color and humor to our sport through his ingenious cartoons, and we are pleased to honor him for his dedication.”

Bellocq, 89, now resides in Princeton, NJ, and has chronicled racing events in the United States and his native France for better than a half-century. An Eclipse Award recipient for Outstanding Contributions to Racing back in 1980, Bellocq has also painted murals at several racetracks.
