O'Shea And Godolphin Part Company

By

John O'Shea has resigned as head trainer to Godolphin in Australia after three years in the position. O'Shea has trained almost 600 winners including ten Group 1 races in those three years but it is believed relations have become strained between O'Shea and a number of key Godolphin personnel including Australian managing director Henry Plumptre. Neither party has of yet commented on the split though it is believed O'Shea will take a break from racing for the foreseeable future while Godolphin have compiled a short list of potential candidates to head up the largest training organisation in Australia. Despite the scale of the operation and top level victories from the likes of Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}), Astern (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro) and Hauraki (Aus) (Reset {Aus}), success in Australia's 'big four', namely the G1 Melbourne Cup, G1 Cox Plate, G1 Caulfield Cup and G1 Golden Slipper has eluded them thus far. O'Shea's most recent high profile win for Godolphin came at the beginning of this month when It's Somewhat (Dynaformer) landed the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick Apr. 1.
