OGLE (f, 2, Oscar Performance–Catch the Eye {GSP, $126,902}, by Quality Road) was let go at 6-1 odds for this unveiling and gave her backers a thrilling first-out victory.
Off a touch slow, and left to play the caboose in the early stages, the daughter of Oscar Performance watched the action unfold in front of her through an opening quarter in :24.15 and a half-mile in :49.43. Never given a moment to breath, 4-5 favorite Let Her Fly (Twirling Candy) was pushed along by 2-1 shot Janie Not Jeanie (Mandaloun) through the final bend and after six panels in 1:14.20, was still on a tenuous lead turning for home.
In the meanwhile, Ogle had a wall of horses in front of her at the head of affairs, but got lucky when a hole opened up for her. Rallying from four off of the fence, she overtook the longtime leader inside the final furlong and drew away to win by a widening 2 1/4 lengths.
The victress is the second to the races for Catch the Eye behind her accomplished half-brother Stark Contrast (Caravaggio), GISW, $1,066,060. That elite-level winner also races in the Amerman Racing colors, and so too did their dam. Ogle has a pair of full-sisters in the wings–a yearling and a 2026 weanling.
The second dam Turns My Head (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) was a $310,000 Keeneland September purchase by the Amermans in 2008 before later selling in 2021 at the Keeneland November sale for $75,000 to Checkmate Thoroughbreds/Sire Prancealot while in foal to Omaha Beach. That foal would later become Very Smart, who was last seen May 9 at Santa Anita running fourth against maiden special weight competition. This is the immediate female family of GISW Gun Pilot (Gun Runner).
