D J Stable LLC's Jaded (c, 2, Olympiad–Lady Pewitt, by Orientate) came with a sustained rally and bridged a double-digit deficit in the Sunday finale at Kentucky Downs, getting his nose down right on the money to defeat the well-regarded 4-5 favorite Roosevelt (Golden Pal) to earn 'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard honors.
A $250,000 Keeneland September acquisition, the chestnut–a half-brother to the same ownership's Eclipse Award-winning 2-year-old filly Jaywalk (Cross Traffic)–found himself a country mile behind through the early exchanges and raced with only two of his rivals behind him as 12-1 Job (Life Is Good) took up the running after the opening quarter of a mile. Roosevelt, looking to become a third new winner for his sire on the afternoon, was set a similarly tall task while racing a few lengths ahead of the quietly ridden Jaded and considerably wider on the course passing midway.
Job was maintaining the gallop through a half-mile in :46.02 and took the field into the final two furlongs, but both Jaded closer to the fence, and Roosevelt deep out, were making eye-catching headway with an eighth of a mile to the wire. Roosevelt looked as if he was going to seal the deal and appeared to have all the momentum to reel in the long-time leader, but Alex Concepcion angled Jaded into the clear and off the heels of Job with only yards remaining and he sliced through in the nick of time in a photo that took the judges several minutes to decipher.
Jaded is the eighth winner from the first crop of Olympiad (by Speightstown).
In addition to Jaywalk (MGISW, $1,668,500), champion of her generation in 2018 and now a winner producer in Japan, Jaded is a half-brother to Danzatrice (Dunkirk), MSW & GSP, $312,145, the dam of Grade I-winning 'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard Tapit Trice (Tapit) and to the dams of SW Jupiter (Upstart) and SP Abdul (Tapit). The third dam includes MGSW/MGISP sire Mission Impazible (Unbridled's Song) and the graded winners Spanish Empire (Pleasant Colony) and Forest Camp (Deputy Minister).
Lady Pewitt, a daughter of the late Gainesway stalwart Orientate, is the dam of Jaded's yearling full-brother and was most recently covered by Seize the Grey.
