Eclipse champion juvenile Nyquist (Uncle Mo–Seeking Gabrielle, by Forestry), who raced for Reddam Racing LLC, has been retired from racing and will join the Darley roster in 2017, Darley announced Monday. The 2016 GI Kentucky Derby hero had been withdrawn from GI Breeders' Cup Classic consideration Oct. 30, with filling in his ankle.

Undefeated in his first eight starts, Nyquist rattled off victories in the GII Best Pal S., GI Del Mar Futurity, and GI FrontRunner S., prior to sealing his juvenile championship with a win at Keeneland in the GI Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile. He resumed at three with a win in the GII San Vicente S. and added the GI Xpressbet.com Florida Derby to his resume, before his Kentucky Derby victory. The Doug O'Neill trainee also ran third in the GI Preakness S. Nyquist's record stands at 11-8-0-1 and earnings of $5,189,200.

Bred by Summerhill Farm in Kentucky, Nyquist sold as a weanling for $180,000 at Keeneland November, and $230,000 during the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He brought $400,000 during the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale after being purchased by Paul Reddam's Reddam Racing, who also campaigned dual Classic hero I'll Have Another (Flower Alley). Out of a daughter of GII Adirondack S. heroine Seeking Regina (Seeking the Gold), Nyquist is also from the family of GISW Sahara Sky (Pleasant Tap) and will stand for $40,000.

“This has been such a great year on a number of fronts,” said Darren Fox, Sales Manager at Darley in America. “We started the year off with arguably our best year ever in the shed with very strong demand across the board. Then Nyquist followed shortly thereafter with his Kentucky Derby win; an Eclipse Champion who was undefeated when winning the Derby hasn't happened since Seattle Slew, so it's an exceptional accomplishment.”

Nyquist joins a strong Darley roster headed by Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado {Ire}), who has sired 15 Grade I winners to date including the undefeated 'TDN Rising Star' Songbird. He will stand for an unchanged fee of $150,000. Bernardini (A.P. Indy), responsible for the likes of 2016 MGISW and 'TDN Rising Star' Cavorting will stand for an unchanged fee of $100,000. Hard Spun (Danzig) and Street Sense (Street Cry {Ire}) will each remain at $45,000, while Kentucky Derby hero and G1 Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux [Brz}) will stand for $30,000.

Also on the Darley Kentucky roster are Street Boss (Street Cry {Ire}) at $17,500, Midshipman (Unbridled's Song) ($8,500), Elusive Quality (Gone West) at $30,000, and Girolamo (A.P. Indy) at $10,000. Alpha (Bernardini) and Emcee (Unbridled's Song) will stand for $7,500 and $5,000, respectively, at Sequel New York.

“We thought Rachel Alexandra was a once-in-a-lifetime filly, but Medaglia d'Oro has another great on in Songbird,” continued Fox. “And Bernardini continues to deliver and has become a consistent source of graded winners every year. So all in all, we are expecting strong demand again in 2017 across the board for our stallions.”
