Notable US-Breds in Japan: Jan. 20 & 21, 2018

In this ongoing series, Alan Carasso takes a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Chukyo, Kyoto and Nakayama Racecourses, with Adena's Point of Entry poised for a big weekend:

Saturday, January 20, 2018
6th-NKY, ¥9,550,000 ($86k), Maiden, 3yo, 2000mT
HOLIDAY MODE (c, 3, Point of Entry–Ski Holiday, by Harlan's Holiday) gave an excellent account of himself in two tries over 1800m as a juvenile, finishing second to recent GSP Jetzt (Jpn) (Company {Jpn}) on his Dec. 16 debut (video, gate 4) before filling the same spot 12 days later (video, gate 15). Shimokobe Farm acquired the April foal's stakes-winning and Grade III-placed dam with the colt in utero for $130K at KEENOV in 2014. The colt's third dam GISW Creaking Board (GB) (Night Shift) produced the talented turf horse Crowd Pleaser (A.P. Indy). B-Shimokobe Farm (KY)

Sunday, January 21, 2018
2nd-CKO, ¥9,550,000 ($86k), Maiden, 3yo, 1400m
JASPER WIN (c, 3, Jimmy Creed–Chick Flick, by Tapit) had the misfortune of running into the record-setting Mr Melody (Scat Daddy) and subsequent two-time US-bred winner Ryono Tesoro (Justin Phillip) in his Nov. 4 bow going 1300 meters over the dirt at Tokyo (video, gate 13), but ran with credit in fourth, albeit a distant one. The $70K KEESEP yearling acquisition, a half to SP Flowmotion (Warrior's Reward), hails from the female family of GISW Behaving Badly (Pioneering). B-Spendthrift Farm LLC (KY)

2nd-KYO, ¥9,550,000 ($86k), Maiden, 3yo, 1800m
BEST MY WAY (c, 3, Point of Entry–Hug It Out, by Medaglia d'Oro), a midfield sixth on debut Oct. 14, improved to third two weeks later (video, gate 3) and went even closer when last seen less than two weeks ago. The March foal is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to GSW Macho Macho (Macho Uno) while his third dam was responsible for Grade I-winning miler Designed For Luck (Rahy). Best My Way, a $15K KEENOV weanling, was a $39K RNA at FTKJUL in 2016, but matured in a major way into a $675K OBSMAR breezer. Hug It Out was sold for $19K carrying a full-brother to Best My Way at KEENOV in 2015. B-Nursery Place, Donaldson & Broadbent (KY)

Stakes Runners: Golden Barows (Tapit)
G2 Tokai TV Hai Tokai S. ($944k), Chukyo, 1-21, 1800m
