In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Tokyo and Kyoto Racecourses:

Saturday, November 9, 2019
6th-TOK, ¥13,400,000 ($123k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1600m
NILE RIVER (c, 2, American Pharoah–Jeweliana, by Smart Strike) is the second produce for his dam, a daughter of Roshani (Fantastic Light), who carried the silks of Ben McElroy to victories in a trio of graded events on the turf from coast to coast. A $235,000 purchase by Carlo Vaccarezza out of the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale, the April foal was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $775,000 from the Top Line Sales consignment after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10 flat at this year's Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale. B-Rosedown Racing Stable LLC (KY)

Sunday, November 10, 2019
3rd-TOK, ¥9,550,000 ($87k), Maiden, 2yo, 1600m
NEWTON TESORO (c, 2, Distorted Humor–Ilikecandy, by Malibu Moon), a $160,000 Keeneland September graduate, was crushed down to 9-10 favoritism in an Oct. 15 newcomers' event going 1400 meters over this surface and made a strong late bid that fell a neck short of the victory (video, gate 13). Produced by a stakes-winning daughter of GSW Real Candy (Real Quiet), Newton Tesoro is bred on the cross over A.P. Indy responsible for Grade I winners Any Given Saturday and Joking. Among the competition Saturday is fellow second-time starter Danon Pharoah (Jpn) (American Pharoah). B-C Kidder & N Cole (KY)
