Munnings's Versatile Finite Holds Firm in Golden Rod

Finite | Coady

Heavily favored Finite (Munnings) ran to the money with her second straight stakes win at Churchill Downs Saturday in the GII Golden Rod S. Saving ground in third as an eager Bean (Bernardini) clocked an opening quarter in :23.92, the chestnut maintained that position, running with her head cocked to the outside, through a :48.53 half-mile. Sweeping up three wide in tandem with Lady Glamour (Discreet Cat) approaching the bend, Finite took control at the top of the lane, but was immediately confronted by Motu (Paynter). The pair battled to the wire with Finite determinedly turning back her competitor in the final strides to register a narrow victory.

Second in her first two attempts sprinting at Saratoga July 19 and Aug. 18, Finite broke through with a 4 1/4-length graduation when switched to the turf at Kentucky Downs Sept. 12. She romped by six lengths in the local Rags to Riches S. back on the main track Oct. 27.

Pedigree Notes:

A fourth-generation Winchell homebred, Finite is the 13th graded winner for her sire Munnings and one of 35 black-type winners for the Coolmore stallion. She is also the 13th graded victor out of a daughter of Tapit. Her dual stakes-winning dam Remit is a full-sister to MGSW & GISP freshman sire Tapiture, GSW Rotation and SW & GSP Retap. Finite is the second black-type winner for her dam, following MSW & GSP Reride. The 12-year-old mare produced a Candy Ride filly in 2018 and a colt from the first crop of Winchell's Horse of the Year Gun Runner Mar. 13 of this year. Remit was bred back to that stallion, who stands at Three Chimneys and was represented by a $750,000 weanling at the recent Fasig-Tipton November Sale.
