More Than Ready's Roy H Gets His Grade I in SA Sprint Championship

Roy H | Benoit

Roy H had a much easier journey this time around, scoring his first Grade I victory in style. Tracking from a two-wide third through a first quarter in :22.07, the bay drew even with the leading duo as they hit the half in :45.03 and drew clear in the final sixteenth to score.

“He always had this ability,” trainer Peter Miller said. ” As a colt, as a younger horse, he just never seemed to put it together. Once we gelded him and gave him some time off, he just blossomed into a different horse. He's all business and just a very, very good horse. Hopefully we get to see this horse again in the Breeders' Cup.”

Roy H opened his 2017 account with a trio of victories, starting with a pair of decisive optional claimer scores in California this spring–the first of which was on turf–and followed by his first stakes success in Belmont's GII True North S.June 11. He was last seen finishing second in a roughly run renewal of Del Mar's GI Bing Crosby S. after champon Drefong (Gio Ponti) dumped rider Mike Smith at the start and interfered with the field in the stretch run.

Pedigree Notes:

Roy H is a son of the talented and versatile racemare Elusive Diva, a graded stakes winner on both turf and dirt. She sold for $1.6 million at the 2006 Keeneland November sale carrying her first foal by Distorted Humor, and was acquired by Roy H=s breeder for $825,000 at Keeneland January three years later in foal to Giant's Causeway. The half-sister to British GSW/G1SP Tropics (Speightstown) sold for $75,000 to Calumet Farm carrying a still-unraced now 3-year-old filly named Libbyris (Algorithms) at KEENOV '13. She has an unraced 2-year-old colt named Call Me McLintock (Point Given), a yearling filly by Oxbow and weanling colt by English Channel. She was bred back to Oxbow.
