Messara To Speak At IFHA Conference

John Messara, chairman and owner of Arrowfield Stud in Australia and chairman of Racing New South Wales, will deliver the keynote speech at the International Conference of Horseracing Authorities at the France Galop offices in Paris Oct. 5.

Messara has been a prominent leader in a period of reform in Australian racing, and has been at the forefront of the development of The Championships. He has also developed Arrowfield into an internationally recognized breeding operation and stallion station. Messara is the vice chairman of the Asian Racing Federation, a member of the Australian Pattern Committee and a representative of Asia to the IFHA.

John Messara has been at the forefront of integrating and showcasing the very best of Australian racing and breeding to the rest of the international community,” said IFHA Chairman Louis Romanet. “We look forward to learning more about the Australian racing model, the development and success of The Championships in Australia, and John's outlook on global racing.”

Two topics will be highlighted at this year's conference: the first, “The Global Illegal Betting Market” will feature presentations from Martin Purbrick, director of security and integrity for The Hong Kong Jockey Club, and Professor Laurent Vidal, chairman of the ICSS-Sorbonne Sport Integrity Program. The second main theme will be “Delivering Media and Information to Bettors and Fans.” This session will be moderated by Jockey Club President and Chief Executive Officer and IFHA Vice Chairman Jim Gagliano and will include presentations from Racing Post Editor and Chief Executive Alan Byrne and Tabcorp's Brendan Parnell. Johnny Weatherby will also give an overview of future challenges to the global stud book community, and Romanet will detail the IFHA's three-year strategic plan in his annual report.
