Maclean's Music Colt 'Rocks' in Roar S.

Classic Rock | Lauren King

Classic Rock made it three in a row and earned his black-type badge with a convincing score in the Roar S. at Gulfstream Friday afternoon. Dueling for control while two wide through a swift first quarter in :22.78, the favorite stuck his head in front just before clocking a half in :45.29 and sailed home a decisive winner. “He ran great,” remarked winning trainer Kathy Ritvo, who also conditioned Dean and Patti Reeves' GI Breeders' Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno). “It was a really nice comeback. He's so smart and cool.” Ritvo's son Michael, who piloted the colt to victory, said, “He's a monster, a real monster, and he did it really easy. When I was passing those horses I said, 'If he's got the drive and he's got the endurance, we're just going to go right by these guys.' because he was just pushing on every step.” A non-factor ninth in his Saratoga unveiling Sept. 4, Classic Rock improved to fourth next out at Keeneland Oct. 19 behind a “TDN Rising Star” performance from Uncontested (Tiz Wonderful) and Untrapped (Trappe Shot), who was also named a “TDN Rising Star” when he returned to win next out at Churchill Downs. Donning cap and gown next out at Gulfstream Dec. 3, the $180,000 KEESEP buy followed suit with a first-level allowance score over this track and trip, besting the well-regarded Beasley (Shackleford) by a length Jan. 6. Classic Rock's connections planned to send him to the Deb. 12 GII SanVicente S. at Santa Anita following that victory, but he was forced to miss that race after coming down with a virus and was rerouted to this test at his home base. The winner's MSP dam A Bit of Pressure, a half-sister to GISP Past the Point (Indian Charlie), is responsible for a juvenile filly by Data Link and produced a full-sister to Classic Rock Mar. 29 of this year.
