CLASSY JOHN (c, 2, Songandaprayer–Kitty's Got Class {MSW, $209,635}, by Old Forester), a $12,000 purchase out of the Equine Sales Company of Louisiana 2YO and HRA sale earlier this year after only being asked to gallop (video), schooled a group of more expensive and more fashionably bred rivals to graduate in the Travers Day opener at Saratoga at odds of 12-1. Up to dispute the pace from between rivals, the Louisiana-bred assumed command after a half in :44.87, pinched a winning break in upper stretch and took off from there to defeat Puttheglassdown (Violence) by a good-looking six lengths. Highly regarded first-time starter and 2-1 favorite Greyes Creeek (Pioneerof the Nile), an $850,000 OBSMAR juvenile, was fourth. Classy John's stakes-winning dam is a granddaughter of GSW Dancing Rhythm (Flying Pigeon) and produced a filly by Astrology earlier this year. She was bred back to Custom for Carlos. Sales history: $12,000 2yo '18 EQL2YO. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $46,750. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
