INSTABILITY (IRE) (c, 3, Lope de Vega {Ire}–Miss Katie Mae {Ire} {SW-Can, GSP-Ire, MSP-USA, $166,139}, by Dark Angel {Ire}) was made the 6-5 favorite for this unveiling and did not disappoint his supporters with a strong performance over the Tampa lawn.

A 440,000gns ($591,663) purchase at the Tattersalls October yearling sale in 2024, the son of leading sire Lope de Vega (Ire) set up comfortably in mid-pack as the frontrunners posted opening splits of :23.14 and a half-mile in :47.67. He steadily improved his position from there behind six panels in 1:13.25 and had taken command coming off the bend as challengers lined up behind him. Kicking away from them in the lane, Instability hit the wire 4 1/2 lengths to the good of Democracy Defender (American Pharoah), who had tried to make a matching move from the fence, but ended up shuffled back when his hole closed on the turn.

The victor is a half-brother to SP Miss Carol Ann (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), whose most recent is a yearling filly by American Pharoah. Their dam was Group-placed in Ireland, and a Listed winner in Canada who has produced two offspring to get a picture taken in her young breeding career. Instability is her most recent to the races, but she does have a juvenile filly by Blackbeard (Ire) to her credit. The mare is herself a half-sibling to English Group winner Summerghand (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and to Group 1-placed Eastern Impact (Ire) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}).
