Lawman Filly Goes 3-For-3 In the d'Aumale

Showing the kind of finishing surge that separates the elite performers from the rest on her two starts prior to Sunday's G3 Prix d'Aumale at ParisLongchamp, Rocques (Fr) (Lawman {Fr}) rose to a new challenge to carry her unbeaten record out of the other side of a tough renewal of this time-honoured staging post. Always close to the 2-1 favourite Ceratonia (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) on the front end, the 12-5 second favourite was travelling best in the straight and when committed by Pierre-Charles Boudot approaching the furlong pole settled the result instantly. At the line, the bay who sports the Gerald Augustin-Normand silks had 3/4 of a length to spare over Godolphin's half-sister to Wild Illusion (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). “She had shown plenty of quality on her first two runs and I had no worries about her staying this mile,” trainer Fabrice Chappet said. “She remains unbeaten and has all the makings of a top-class filly, so the logical next race is the [Oct. 7 G1 Prix] Marcel Boussac.”

Rocques, who is named after a Calvados commune, was a winner at Chantilly July 8 and at Clairefontaine July 30 over seven furlongs, but it is probably over middle-distances that she will truly shine at three. The dam Regina Mundi (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) was at her best over 10 and 11 furlongs and is a half-sister to the Listed Newmarket S. winner and G2 King Edward VII S. runner-up Delsarte (Theatrical {Ire}) and Veenwouden (GB) (Desert Prince {Ire}) who stayed two miles when third in the G3 Jockey Club Cup. Another of her half-siblings Humble and Proud (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) is the dam of the recent GI Sword Dancer S. hero Glorious Empire (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), while the third dam Casey (GB) (Caerleon) annexed the G2 Park Hill S. over the St Leger trip. The one leaning to speed under a mile is Casey's relation Avonbridge (GB) (Averti {Ire}) who took the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp. Regina Mundi's unnamed yearling colt is by Acclamation (GB), while she also has a filly foal by Australia (GB).
