Gestut Auenquelle resident Torquator Tasso (Adlerflug) became the latest European freshman sire off the mark when his Andreas Wohler-trained son Laveran made a winning debut in Saturday's MIG Fonds-Rennen at Munich.
The Stall Mandarin-owned bay, a G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten nominee, lined up as the 13-10 favourite for the one-mile maiden contest and registered an impressive 2 3/4-length verdict from Westana, who is also by Torquator Tasso.
Positioned several lengths off the pace in fourth after breaking well from an inner stall, he surged forward off the home turn to gain control approaching the quarter-mile marker and lengthened clear inside the final furlong before gearing down to easily register a clear-cut win.
“He had already made a very good impression at home and he is doing everything very professionally,” rider Eduardo Pedroza told GaloppOnline.
Laveran, full to a weanling colt, is the second live foal and scorer produced by a dual-winning daughter of Lavela (Nayef), herself a half-sister to Listed-winning G3 St Leger Italiano third Lacateno (Green Tune) and the dual stakes-placed Ledicea (Medicean). The latter is the dam of the dual Group 3 winner Liberty London (Maxios).
The winner's third dam Lacatena (Acatenango) is a full-sister to multiple Group 1-winning sire Lando and kin to G1 Deutsches Derby hero Laroche (Nebos) and G2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) third La Donna (Shirley Heights).
Torquator Tasso has 22 yearlings slated to sell at the upcoming BBAG Premier Yearling Sale.
