Latent Heat to Woods Edge

The O'Callaghan familyís Woods Edge Farm, a leading consignor in recent years, announced yesterday that it will stand its first U.S. stallion in the in the form of Grade I winner Latent Heat (Mariaís Mon–True Flare, by Capote), who retires to the Lexington, Kentucky-based operation for the 2008 season. He will stand for a fee of $15,000 as the property of a syndicate. Woods Edge has sister farms in Ireland– Yeomanstown and Morristown Lattin Studs–which currently stand five stallions, including G1 Epsom Derby winner Kris Kin (GB). ìWe are delighted to have a horse of his caliber as our first stallion,î commented Peter O'Callaghan, head of Wood Edgeís Kentucky base. ìHe has all of the important ingredients that are necessary for today's breeders: a high-class racehorse with great natural speed, good looks and a beautiful pedigree to back it up.î
