Lady Jockeys' World Championships Renewed

The second edition of Sweden's Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship, held at Bro Park last year, are returning to that venue on Aug. 5, Svensk Galopp announced on Thursday. 2017 champion, Frenchwoman Maryline Eon, will receive an automatic invitation to defend her title, while Arena Racing Company's Silk Series winner Megan Nicholls does as well. Invitations will be extended to a further eight jockeys, with all 10 competing in five races over the Sunday card.

“We are delighted to be returning with the Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship and very pleased to be able to announce our 2018 date on International Women's Day,” said Svensk Galopp Director of Racing Dennis Madsen. “The Lady Jockeys' Thoroughbred World Championship highlights the achievements of women on the international sporting stage and shares many of the aims and aspirations of the #PressforProgress campaign. We look forward to announcing the rest of our line-up in the coming months and putting women's sport firmly in the spotlight on Sunday, Aug. 5.”
