Kingman's Sangarius Stays Unbeaten In the Flying Scotsman

Sangarius | Racing Post

Earning TDN Rising Star status on a winning debut marked by explosive closing sectionals over this trip at Newmarket Aug. 24, Sangarius faced a different examination here with showers turning the ground to good-to-soft. After a start delayed by the fatal stalls accident suffered by the Convivial Maiden S. winner Commanding Officer (GB) (Poet's Voice {GB}), the homebred raced freely in the hands of Ryan Moore granted a lead by Jonah Jones (Ire) (No Nay Never) as they raced away from the other group. Coaxed to the front 1 1/2 furlongs down, the bay was green but always in control and when shown the whip demonstrated the change of pace he had exhibited on his introduction. “He won nicely on debut and obviously today there was a lot going on for him, but he has a great attitude and hopefully he'll be a real nice horse next year,” his rider commented.

Sangarius is the fifth foal out of the Andre Fabre-trained Trojan Queen (Empire Maker), a half-sister to the G1 Prix Jean Romanet heroine and GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf runner-up Romantica (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and the dual listed-winning and G2 Prix Niel runner-up Ideal World (Kingmambo). The second dam is the G1 Coronation S., GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois heroine Banks Hill (GB) (Danehill), a daughter of blue hen Hasili (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}) and thus a full-sister to the multiple group and grade 1-winning champions Cacique (Ire), Intercontinental (GB) and Champs Elysees (GB) and the leading sire Dansili (GB). Her half-sister, the GI Beverly D. S. and GI Matriarch S. heroine Heat Haze (GB) (Green Desert), is now the dam of the recent G3 Glorious S. winner Mirage Dancer (GB) (Frankel {GB}). Trojan Queen, who also produced the G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial third Emergent (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), has a yearling colt by the Juddmonte goliath who first advertised his unparalleled brilliance when winning this as a conditions race in 2010.
