Kingman's Persian King Dominates the Fontainebleau

With a potential crack in the armour of Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) showing, TDN Rising Star Persian King (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) could be ready to take charge judged on his emphatic seasonal bow in Sunday's G3 Prix de Fontainebleau at ParisLongchamp. Sent off the 1-5 favourite, Godolphin and Ballymore Thoroughbreds' G3 Autumn S. winner carted Pierre-Charles Boudot to the front after a furlong with a formidable exuberance and kicked clear of over-matched rivals in the straight. To his credit, fellow TDN Rising Star and stablemate Epic Hero (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) got within five lengths of the highly impressive winner at the line, with Duke of Hazzard (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) a head away in third.
The clock was stopped in race record time for when it has been staged at its traditional home, with the 1:36.41 being over a second faster than any edition in the last 40 years. “He has obviously improved from two to three and that was very pleasing,” commented Anthony Stroud on behalf of Diane Wildenstein and Godolphin. “The time was very good and we had no worries about the ground, as he's a nice mover. We'll now wait and see what happens during the Craven meeting and assess the situation with Sheikh Mohammed and Diane Wildenstein and see what Andre Fabre wants to do. We'll make the decision between the French and English 2000 Guineas at the end of next week.”
Persian King earned TDN Rising Star status with a five-length success from fellow TDN Rising Star Lone Peak (Fr) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in a mile conditions event at Chantilly Sept. 15 before upstaging the subsequent G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Magna Grecia (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the Autumn S. at Newmarket in October. Initially thought likely to bypass the G1 2000 Guineas with Fabre talking about longer distances, this powerful display at the Classic trip might force the hand of his various connections. His trainer was non-committal afterwards. “One of the factors will be what happens on Wednesday [in the Craven S. at Newmarket],” he explained. “I am very happy. I thought it was a good performance and his action was good.” Regarding Epic Hero, he added, “He clearly didn't get the distance. I think he's a seven-furlong horse.”
The dam Pretty Please (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}) is a half-sister to the G1 Prix Ganay hero and sire Planteur (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and a half to the dual listed winner Pilote d'Essai (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). The third dam Palmeraie (Lear Fan) is kin to the GII Long Island H. scorer Peinture Bleue (Alydar), who was later responsible for the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero and leading sire Peintre Celebre (Nureyev). Pretty Please's 2-year-old filly is by Australia (GB).
