Cayton Park Stud's homebred I'm The One (Sea The Stars), who skipped an engagement at Great Yarmouth last weekend, justified market confidence in Friday's Dreweatts Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Newbury by delivering a dazzling TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard, performance in the 10-furlong contest.
The John and Thady Gosden trainee, a G1 Oaks entry, follows in the hoofprints of Clarehaven luminaries Lah Ti Dar and Star Catcher, who also annexed this important staging post. Others to have prevailed include Oaks heroines Eswarah and Dancing Rain.
“A trial for the Oaks would be the obvious next step and we'll see how she comes out of this,” said Thady Gosden. “There's a couple of options, very possibly we could go to York [for the May 13 G2 Musidora] and there is the mile-and-a-quarter [Listed] race back here [May 16] as well. We will need to discuss it with Mrs [Gaynor] Rupert [of Cayton Park Stud] and make a decision from there.”
The even-money favourite was trapped wide early and eased forward to stalk the pace in second after the opening exchanges. Looming large on the bridle in the straight, she was shaken up to seize control approaching the final furlong and lengthened clear in taking fashion to easily overpower the pacesetting Allaire (Study Of Man) by a half-dozen lengths. I'm The One was immediately installed as favourite for the Oaks.
I'm The One, full-sister to a yearling filly, is the first of two foals produced by G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern victrix Sunny Queen (Camelot).
She hails from the immediate family of G1 Prix de Diane heroines Stacelita (Monsun) and Sparkling Plenty (Kingman), as well as Stacelita's dual Group 1-winning daughter Soul Stirring (Frankel), who was twice named Japanese champion.
