High Chaparral Son To New Zealand

Wrote winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf under Ryan Moore | Racing Post

The late High Chaparral (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) has been and continues to be a highly influential stallion in the Southern Hemisphere and New Zealand breeders can look forward to utilizing a unique son of the stallion in GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Wrote (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}-Desert Classic {GB}, by Green Desert). The former Aidan O'Brien trained 8-year-old has been standing at Northwest Farm in Florida but a deal has been struck by Brent Gillovic of Highview Stud in New Zealand to bring him Down Under. “He's the only Group One-winning two-year-old son of High Chaparral in the world,” Gillovic said of the stallion, who has 2-year-olds on the ground in Florida. Speaking to Racing And Sports he added, “I was first alerted to the horse by an American agent when I went to the US Masters Golf at Augusta in 2015 and I went down to Florida to see him. I liked what I saw. He's very much in the image of his sire – a powerful, correct horse,”

Gillovic didn't manage to secure Wrote for stallion duties back then but he didn't give up and has since come to a arrangement with his owners. “I had hoped to purchase him, but he is owned by a group who had bought him as part of a package of horses to race and they aren't interested in selling him. I couldn't get the horse out of my mind and last year I made more inquires. Now, I've managed to acquire him as a shuttle stallion and I couldn't be more excited.” Wrote was bred by Rob Speers and in addition to his win at Churchill Downs in 2011 he also finished third to then stable-mate Daddy Long Legs (Scat Daddy) in both the G2 Royal Lodge S. and the G2 UAE Derby. He will stand for a fee of NZ$5,000 at Highview Stud.
