Runner-up in last month's G2 King Edward VII S. at Royal Ascot, Lady Bamford's homebred Mr Singh (GB} (High Chaparral {Ire}) performed the perfect audition for Doncaster's Sept. 12 G1 St Leger with a pillar-to-post victory in Thursday's G3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket. In command throughout, the 11-10 favorite claimed a decisive advantage entering the final eighth and was pushed out up the hill to score by 2 1/2 lengths from Future Empire (GB) (New Approach {Ire}). Tommy Docc (Ire) (Thewayyouare) ran on well in the closing stages to finish 1 1/4 lengths adrift in third. “He was the form horse in the race, it was a good performance and I was very pleased with that,” beamed rider Frankie Dettori. “He's a good stayer with a turn of foot and put the race to bed at the two [pole]. He's all frame at the moment, but is improving all the time and getting stronger. We think he's a St Leger horse, he's up to that level and proved it today.”
